Y. Yatabe et al., ABSORPTION SPECTROSCOPIC STUDIES ON THE I NTERACTIONS BETWEEN ANTHRAQUINONE DYES AND POLYESTER MODEL, Nippon kagaku kaishi, (11), 1993, pp. 1275-1282
In order to obtain information on the dyeing mechanism of polyester fi
bers with anthraquinone dyes, interactions between a polyester model a
nd anthraquinone dyes have been investigated by the analysis of UV and
visible absorption spectra in terms of a modified McRae's equation. M
ethyl benzoate was used as the polyester model. Anthraquinone, 1- and
2-substituted anthraquinones with electron donating groups were used a
s the anthraquinone dyes. The orientation force of the anthraquinone d
yes estimated from the equation was 0 approximately 2kcal/mol, which w
as about 0 approximately 15% of the total dye-methyl benzoate interact
ion. The sum of the dispersion and induction force of the anthraquinon
e dyes estimated from the equation was 4 approximately 14 kcal/mol, wh
ich was about 80 approximately 100% of the total dye-methyl benzoate i
nteraction. It appears that the dispersion force makes a considerable
part of contribution to the dye-methyl benzoate interaction, and orien
tation force and induction force makes a much smaller contribution to
the interaction.
