New material from Henderson and Ducie Islands, and a review of other a
vailable records, shows that six species of lizards (three geckos and
three skinks) have been recorded from the Pitcairn Group. All are wide
spread in the South Pacific. Lepidodactylus lugubris is the first geck
o to be identified from Henderson and Ducie. Lipinia noctua is reporte
d from Henderson Island for the first time. All of 45 specimens of Emo
ia from the four islands of the group are E. cyanura, as recently rede
fined, and not the sibling species E. impar. Gehyra mutilata probably
reached Pitcaim as a stowaway in cargo within the last century; the ot
her species may have been spread by Polynesian voyagers in prehistoric
times.
