A random-field Ising model with second-neighbour interaction has been
investigated using the new effective-field theory. The phase diagrams
are examined in detail for the square lattice in a random field obeyin
g the bimodal symmetric distribution. A tricritical point is found in
the system, in contrast to the corresponding nearest-neighbour interac
tion Ising model. In particular, the tricritical phase diagram for a b
ody-centered cubic lattice in nearest-neighbour approximation is also
determined.
