Graft copolymers of guar gum (GG) and methylacrylate (MA) were synthes
ized by different reaction variables to achieve the optimal reaction c
ondition by hydrogen peroxide initiation in aqueous media. The effects
of [H2O2], reaction time, [MA] and [GG] on the grafting have been int
erpreted in terms of the grafting parameters and of the reactions rate
. The products were characterized by infrared spectrophotometry, and t
hermogravimetry. The values of the activation energy for the thermal d
egradation of the grafted copolymers were found as independent on the
extent of grafting.
