Abstract
In quest of a cell culture adapted vaccine strain of Newcastle disease virus (NDV several attempts were made in the past with varying succes s (Bankowski, 1957 ; 1958. Padmaraj et al., 1992). Use of a local stra in in tailoring newer vaccines is better preferred, especially when th ere is no strain variation. Our earlier studies with eleven local isol ates of NDV from different field outbreaks in Tamil Nadu State reveale d that they all belonged to the CI group (Kumanan et al, 1992b) as def ined by Russel and Alexander (1983). The present work describes the gr owth and adaptability of one of the velogenic isolates in vero cell li ne with a view to evolve a cell line adapted NDV Vaccine strain.
