Anorexia resulting from primary indigestion in dairy animals could be
due to impeded motor functions, disorders of microbial - biochemical d
igestion and pathological changes in pn of rumen fluid (Dirksen, 1983)
. In India, buffaloes contribute 52% of the total milk yield (Tata et
al., 1990). Milk production will be greatly reduced in primary indiges
tion and the resulting economic losses could be enormous. Treatment of
such cases necessitates a detailed examination of rumen liquor. There
are several reports on rumen liquor studies in the cases of indigesti
on in cattle. The present report deals with observations on clinical c
ases of indigestion in buffaloes.
