INFORMATION GATHERING AND PROCESSING IN PULSED-LASER RANGEFINDERS

This paper examines questions involving the gathering and processing o f information in pulsed laser rangefinders in order to identify the at tributes of the object of the rangefinding, selection, and recognition when disturbances are present. The effect of the spatial extent of th e target, the nonuniformity of the radiation beam, and the random aimi ng error of the rangefinder at the target were taken into account here . Algorithms and techniques for automatic target selection are conside red. A principle is proposed for isolating the signal from the target and for recognizing it on the basis of information contained in the re flected pulse.
