Abstract
Nonlinear interactions of tearing modes result in chaotic magnetic flu ctuations. A system of ordinary differential equations is derived to m odel the nonlinear interactions of magnetic islands with different hel icities. For a reasonable set of parameters, the solution shows chaoti c behaviour.
