Abstract
Erbium doping introduces a resonant contribution to the group-velocity dispersion of the amplifier host fiber. A method for evaluating the e rbium-induced group-velocity dispersion is proposed. This dispersion m ethod requires the knowledge of the cold-cavity loss along with the ga in and absorption spectrum of the active medium. An experimental measu rement of group-velocity dispersion in a tunable actively mode-locked erbium-doped fiber laser confirms the validity of the method.
