The idoine concentrations in nationally representative samples of food
s commonly consumed by Saudis were determined using the colorimetric m
ethod. Food items belonging to bread group, dairy group, eggs, vegetab
les, fruits, fish, soft drinks and Saudi mixed meals were analysed for
their iodine concentrations. Results have revealed iodine concentrati
ons comparable to those for Britain and the United States. It is concl
uded that food consumed by Saudis appears to have an adequate iodine c
oncentration.
