Abstract
The electrolytic processing of weak black liquor (WBL) was investigate d in the batch mode of operation using a laboratory system. The proces s could reduce the organic load to the recovery furnace by pre-cipitat ing lignin from a fraction of WBL while converting up to 80% of the so dium salts to a high-quality caustic solution. The process has the pot ential to provide incremental capacity for an overloaded kraft recover y system.
