l-N-cyclohexyl-phosphinothio-formamidodimethylgold (III), [Me(2)Au{Cy(
2)PC(S)NCy}] (Cy = cyclo-C6H11), C21H38AuNPS, has been synthesized by
reacting [Me(2)AuCl](2) with Cy(2)PC(S)N(H)Cy in methanol solution in
the presence of K2CO3. The crystal structure of the title compound has
been determined at room temperature. The colorless crystals are ortho
rhombic, space group P2(1)2(1)2(1) with unit cell dimensions a = 12.86
0(1) Angstrom, b = 14.975(1) Angstrom, c = 12.230(1) Angstrom, Z = 4 a
nd D-x = 1.595 ME m(-3). The structure was solved by direct methods an
d refined by a full-matrix least-squares procedure to final R = 0.039
using 1453 reflections. The [Cy(2)PC(S)NCy)](-) anion chelates the gol
d atom via the sulfur [Au-S 2.400(5) Angstrom] and phosphorus [Au-P 2.
344(5) Angstrom] atoms and the remaining two sites in the square plana
r geometry about the gold atom are occupied by the two methyl groups [
Au-C(2) 2.08(2) Angstrom and Au-C(3) 2.03(2) Angstrom].
