The use of the radial forearm free flap, otherwise known as the ''Chin
ese'' flap, to provide reconstruction of large ablative defects of the
face or oral lining is reported in three patients. Microvascular anas
tomosis was used to ensure flap viability. This donor site was found t
o be especially versatile because it enables the transfer of skin area
s of a variety of sizes and because the thin pliable nature of the for
earm skin is well suited to replace oral mucosa. Part of the radius an
d muscles may also be included in the flap.
