Abstract
The aim of the study was to investigate the effects of a new seretonin ergic drug, sumatriptan, on arginine vasopressin secretion in humans. Plasma vasopressin concentrations were determined in eight healthy vol unteers, before and after administration of 6 mg of sumatriptan, or pl acebo. No changes in hormone levels were found after sumatriptan or pl acebo administration. The results suggest that in humans serotoninergi c mechanisms, which modulate vasopressin secretion, do not involve the serotonin receptor activated by sumatriptan.
