The metallic glasses Cu50Ti50, Ni30Ti60Si10, Ni32Ti52Si16, Ni16Ti68Si1
6 and Ti84Si16 were produced by melt spinning. The alloys in the blank
state as well as after loading with hydrogen or deuterium were invest
igated by small angle neutron (SANS) and X-ray (SAXS) scattering. The
scattering of the different amorphous alloys exhibited common features
. SANS follows a power-law with exponent of the scattering vector betw
een -3 and -4. The melt-spun glasses contain extended structural inhom
ogeneities which are associated rather with the local composition than
with the local density. SAXS measurements did not show effects above
the background level. Loading the alloys with hydrogen or deuterium ca
uses strong effects in the SANS behaviour. From the results it is conc
luded that the amorphous alloys contain inner surfaces where the hydro
gen atoms segregate.
