Abstract
Frequency upconversion in Pr3+-doped silica based fibers has been obta ined through the photon avalanche effect. A cw visible (670 nm) laser diode was the pump source used to obtain emission in the blue-green re gion. The critical power density to observe the effect was estimated t o be < 0.5 W/cm2.
