A theoretical analysis of flow disappearance in heavy-ion collisions i
s performed in the relativistic Vlasov-Uehling-Uhlenbeck (RVUU) approa
ch. We find that the energy of vanishing flow (EVF) is insensitive to
the impact parameter b and the momentum dependent mean field. By compa
ring the numerical results to the experimental data, a nucleon-nucleon
cross section sigma = (1.4 +/- 0.2) sigma(f) is inferred where sigma(
f) is the energy-dependent free nucleon-nucleon cross section.
