We investigate the production of Z0 bosons in heavy-ion collisions at
LHC and SSC energies. Different elementary production mechanisms incor
porating quarks, gluons, and photons are considered and implemented in
to the employed parton model. A geometrical heavy-ion collision model
as well as the Weizsacker-Williams method are utilized to extrapolate
from hadronic cross sections to total nuclear cross sections for centr
al and peripheral Pb-208-Pb-208 collisions. The detection of the produ
ced Z0 bosons should proceed via their decay into dileptons.
