D. Gibson et Jb. Jones, FED UP WITH PARASITES - A METHOD FOR ESTIMATING ASYMPTOTIC GROWTH IN FISH POPULATIONS, Marine Biology, 117(3), 1993, pp. 495-500
The accumulation of parasites in a fish host is modelled as a function
of the total amount of prey consumed. The accumulated parasite load i
s then expressed as a function of fish length so that the asymptotic g
rowth, L infinity of any population of commonly infected fish can be e
stimated. Estimates of L infinity are obtained for orange roughy (Hopl
ostethus atlanticus), albacore tuna (Thunnus alalunga) and the New Zea
land southern arrow squid (Nototodarus sloanii).
