An. Vassilyev et al., THERMOELASTIC STRESSES AS A MECHANISM OF ELECTROMAGNETIC-ACOUSTIC TRANSFORMATION, Uspehi fiziceskih nauk, 163(10), 1993, pp. 81-93
The excitation of thermal waves of frequency omega in anisotropic cond
uctor by electromagnetic wave of the same frequency incident on its su
rface is investigated. The normal lo metal surface does not coincide w
ith the axis of symmetry of crystal. Due to the thermoelectric effect
oscillations of temperature appear in the metal, which in turn excite
ultrasonic waves as a result of thermoelastic stresses. The role of th
e relatively high constant magnetic field in the processes of linear t
hermoelastic generation of ultrasound is found. The nonlinear (on the
frequency 2omega) thermoelastic generation of ultrasound is studied an
d the analysis of the present experimental situation in the field is g
iven.
