This review paper deals with the physiology of the digestive tract in
poultry, and with the main features of drug pharmacokinetics (biodispo
nibility, metabolism and disposition) for a correct approach of avian
therapeutics. Modes and routes of administration, in vitro incompatibi
lities, drug (sic) interactions are described. Indications and dosages
are mentioned for the most frequently used families (antibiotics, ant
i-parasitics). Food additives that are used in poultry (antibiotics, c
occidiostatics and others) and their interactions with other therapeut
ic agents are also checked.
