ELECTROPOLYMERIZATION OF A HOMOLOGOUS SERIES OF DIPYRROL-1-YLALKANES

The electrochemistry of a homologous series of 1,x-dipyrrol-1-ylalkane s (methyl(x = 1) to decyl (x - 10) except ethyl, heptyl and nonyl) was investigated in acetonitrile + Et4NBF4 or Et4NClO4. Various technique s such as voltammetry, resistometry and electrochemical impedance spec troscopy were used to establish the electrochemical properties of the resultant polymers. Oxidation of the monomers produced conducting poly mers that had properties similar to those of substituted poly(pyrroles ). Mechanically, the films were brittle, indicating cross-linking betw een adjacent polymer chains.
