Single crystals of Bi2Sr2CaCu2Ox were grown using a travelling solvent
floating zone technique in an infrared radiation furnace with seed cr
ystals. The purpose of the process was to obtain large single crystals
. The use of seed crystals was found to be quite effective for increas
ing the thickness of the crystal in the c-axis direction. Characteriza
tion of the single crystal was investigated using a polarized optical
micrograph, EPMA, TEM, RBS and a high resolution X-ray diffractometer.
