The kinetic characteristics of alkaline hydrolysis of polyacrylamide (
PAA) in dilute aqueous solutions ([PAA] = 0.05-0.2%) in the presence o
f NaOH at 3, 25, and 50 degrees C were investigated by potentiometry.
It was shown that the concentration of sodium acrylate units in the pr
oducts of alkaline hydrolysis of PAA increases with an increase in the
concentration of hydrolyzing agent, the temperature and duration of h
ydrolysis, and with a decrease in the concentration of polymer and amm
onium sulfate.
