The transformations of phenylcyclopentane and phenylcyclohexane in the
presence of aluminum chloride, at a temperature from -25 to 100 degre
es C for 0.5-10 h, and at a molar ratio of the reagent and the catalys
t of 1:(0.05-1) were studied. The formation of methyl- and dimethylcon
gressanes, respectively, was shown by the chromate-mass spectrometric
method.
