AlCl was detected and characterized with 1 + 2, 2 + 1, 2 + 2, 3 + 1, a
nd 3 + 2 resonance-enhanced multiphoton ionization spectroscopy using
laser light between 332 and 570 nm. AlCl was generated in the gas phas
e with high temperature reaction of Al with InCl3, or by the reaction
of Al with AgCl. New states residing between 52 000 and 66 000 cm-1 we
re identified. Vibrational intervals of the new Rydberg states are abo
ut 20% greater than those of AlCl (X 1SIGMA+), with most lying between
565-595 cm-1.
