Fa. Alkhayyal et al., LITERATURE SURVEY - THE CURRENT STATE OF KNOWLEDGE IN MODELING THE AIDS EPIDEMIC, Mathematical and computer modelling, 18(7), 1993, pp. 59-78
The epidemic of HIV infection and AIDS is still growing and has been s
teadily rising in the national rankings of causes of death. The compos
ition of the AIDS population is changing both in geographic area and r
isk group. The changing behavior of the epidemic necessitates our bett
er understanding of the disease and the ways of intervention. One of t
he tools to facilitate this task is by the use of modeling the natural
history of the epidemic. This paper attempts to provide a comprehensi
ve literature survey of knowledge in modeling the AIDS epidemic and th
e pertinent intervention policies. Some information on older or more o
bscure papers was obtained from previous literature surveys compiled b
y various authors listed in the references portion of this paper. As a
conclusion to the report, different avenues for further research are
addressed.
