Abstract
The luminescence of Ba3NaNbO6 and Ba3NaTaO6 is reported and discussed. These compounds contain isolated niobate and tantalate octahedra. The y show an efficient photoluminescence at low temperatures. At room tem perature this luminescence is quenched by energy migration. A comparis on with physically similar systems is made.
