This paper presents an object-oriented analysis of finite element meth
ods for dynamic analysis with a view to increasing the efficiency, rob
ustness and state-of-the-art functional relations, in the context of a
CAD system for engineering design. This approach offers potential ben
efits of accessing the programs to tailor one's particular needs and t
he addition of software to the existing general-purpose finite element
programs. The objects are identified for dynamic analysis and a pseud
ocode is presented to illustrate the feasibility of this approach. Thi
s approach with knowledge-base rules offers great benefits for solving
engineering design problems.
