Abstract
It is shown that strongly localized discrete gap solitons may exist in a diatomic chain of particles interacting via a harmonic and a quarti c anharmonic potential. In the framework of the rotating-wave approxim ation, several types of such nonlinear modes are found in the limit of large nonlinearity.
