SYNTHESIS OF SOME NEW (PLUS-OR-MINUS)N-SUBSTITUTED DERIVATIVES OF 3-METHYL-4, 1-BENZOXAZEPINE-2,5-DIONE

3-Methyl-4,1-benzoxazepine, 1H, 3H, 2,5-dione III was prepared by cond ensation of anthranilic acid with alpha-bromopropionyl chloride and cy clization of the product by refluxing in DMF. Substitution at N-1 was carried out for the first time by the reaction of corresponding halide i.e. -CH3, -C2H5, n-C3H7, n-C4H9 allyl and benzyl with III in the pre sence of NaH and DMF as solvent. In this manner compounds IV-IX were p repared. The compounds were purified by column and thick layer chromat ography. The structures were established by U.V., I.R., N.M.R., elemen t analysis and mass spectral evidence.
