Swallow-tailed liquid crystals are antiparallel oriented in the short
range-order. The organization and destruction of this order was studie
d by addition of other swallow-tailed molecules, molecules with latera
l substitution, a double swallow-tailed and a rod-like component. Indu
ction and destruction of liquid crystalline phases was investigated by
phase diagrams and dielectric methods. This survey contains new exper
imental data as well as for comparison already published results. It i
s a good example for the importance of geometrical relations for the f
ormation of the liquid crystalline state.
