EXPERT-SYSTEMS IN TRACE ANALYSIS

A brief overview of the fundamental principles of knowledge-based syst ems and their development and usefulness is given. The main difference s from conventional computer programs are indicated together with the main advantages and drawbacks. A variety of recent applications of exp ert systems in trace analysis are reviewed, novel approaches to the fi eld are reported and the future trends of these systems in the develop ment of intelligent instrumentation are evaluated.
