K. Ballard, A SOCIOPOLITICAL PERSPECTIVE ON DISABILITY - RESEARCH AND INSTITUTIONAL DISABILISM, New Zealand journal of educational studies, 28(2), 1993, pp. 89-103
This paper suggests the need for a critical perspective in research on
disability that takes account of social and political factors. It pro
poses that people with disabilities may experience oppression as a res
ult of prevailing models of disability and of unquestioned assumptions
that lie behind approaches to research, policy and practice. It is su
ggested that people experiencing disability should have control of res
earch and advocacy agendas on disability.
