S. Mcnaughton et al., THE MANAGEMENT OF CHILDHOOD ASTHMA - ATTENDANCE AND SCHOOL PERFORMANCE, New Zealand journal of educational studies, 28(2), 1993, pp. 155-164
Relationships between school attendance and performance family managem
ent and knowledge of asthma and conditions of living were examined in
a study of 381 asthmatic children. Results indicated that school, econ
omic and cultural variables were significantly related to attendance a
t school, reading achievement and assessments of interference in schoo
l life. Measures of management were not related, but knowledge was rel
ated to attendance. Results revealed large differences within the samp
le in days lost from school. Educational implications include the need
for health education to be focused on living conditions.
