Comparative mutagenic activity of 7 derivatives of byphenyl and fluore
none, 4,4'-dinitrobyphenyl-2,2'-dicarboxic acid; 4,4',6,6'-tetranitrob
yphenyl-2,2'-dicarboxicamid; 2-nitrofluorenon-5-carbosic acid; 2,7-din
itrofluorenon-5-carboxic acid; 2,7-dinitrofluorenon-5-carbonic amid; 2
-nitrofluorenon-5,7-dicarboxic acid; 2,4-dinitrofluorenon-5,7-dicarbox
ic acid was studied. The highest activity was demonstrated for 2,7-DNF
-5-KA and 2,7-DNF-5,7-DK which induced frameshift mutations in the tes
ter strains Salmonella typhymurium TA1537, TA97, TA1538, TA98. High mu
tagenicity of these compounds is correlated with the position of nitro
groups and the effects of carboxic and carboxiamid groups.
