The discovery of many new cookeite and pyrophyllite occurrences in the
Aalanian black shales from the Dauphinois internal zone, French weste
rn Alps, points to Alpine metamorphic conditions between 1 and 5 kbar
and from 270 to 340-degrees-C for the external area. These conditions
correspond to the culmination of a prograde metamorphic history which
has never left the greenschist facies. The cookeite distribution stric
tly limited to the Aalenian schist suggests the original presence of l
ithium in the sediment.
