In this paper, we perform a Painleve property analysis of a simple mod
el food chain containing ten parameters. We have been able to obtain a
reduction of the multiparameter space to a two-parameter space satisf
ying nonintegrability conditions. The usefulness of this analysis is t
hat one immediately obtains information on the key parameters governin
g the dynamical behaviour of the system concerned. Our analytical find
ings are well supported by the numerical experiments. The work reporte
d in this paper might be helpful in future ecological modelling and fo
r that matter for the study of any model of any physical system.
