The propagation of ultrasonic waves through a plane layer of contact l
iquid is analyzed taking the surface roughness of the article into acc
ount. The combined effect of the parameters of the contact-liquid laye
r and of the layer of roughness on the interference occurring in them,
on the amplitude and wavelength of the waves entering the article, an
d on the position of the lower boundary of the contact layer is estima
ted.
