Aj. Jawad et al., LOWER-LIMB ISCHEMIA COMPLICATING TRANSCATHETER EMBOLIZATION OF ARTERIOVENOCALICEAL FISTULA, Saudi medical journal, 14(3), 1993, pp. 252-254
Femoral artery thrombosis is described following successful transcathe
ter control of haematuria due to an arteriovenocaliceal fistula follow
ing percutaneous renal biopsy in a 9-year-old girl. Emergency embolect
omy and profundoplasty was required to salvage the affected limb. Peri
pheral embolization is a serious potential complication of transcathet
er embolization. The possible mechanism of distal thrombosis, other th
an reflux of embolic material is also discussed.
