Abstract
During a search for nitrogen-controlled promoters on the Klebsiella pn eumoniae M5a1 chromosome, the regulatory region of putP (coding for pr oline permease) was cloned, sequenced and analyzed. The region contain ed a weak sigma70-dependent promoter and putative binding sites for th e cAMP-CAP complex and the Nac regulatory protein, the latter probably providing a link with the nitrogen regulation (Ntr) system. Using a l acZ gene fusion, evidence for control of putP transcription by both Na c and Ntr was obtained.
