The complex equilibria for the interaction of Co(II) or Cu(II) with ad
ipic acid dihydrazide (AADH) or 2-furoic acid hydrazide (FAH) in aqueo
us dimethylformamide or dioxane media have been studied pH-metrically
using a non-linear least squares program, MINIQUAD75. The initial appr
oximate stability constants, stoichiometric coefficients of various sp
ecies and judging of best-fit chemical Model are based on heuristic ap
proach. The effect of different co-solvents and their contents on the
formation of species is explained considering electrostatic, specific
solute-solvent and solvent-solvent interactions. The concept of comple
te equilibrium constant is used to calculate the change in the number
of water molecules associated with the formation of complexes.
