We estimate the nova frequency in the disk of M 31, its companions M 3
2 and NGC 205, and M 33 on the basis of observational data obtained in
the Crimea and Latvia in 1967-1990. The estimated nova frequency per
year is R=2.9-4.4 in the disk of M 33. R < 0.2 in M 32 and NGC 205, an
d R < 0.4 in M 33. These data lead to the following specific frequenci
es per unit galaxy luminosity (10(10)L(B.)) in the B band: rho(B)=1.4-
1.8 in the disk of M 31, rho(B) < 8.7 in M 32, rho(B) < 6.9 in NGC 205
, and rho(B) < 1.0 in M 33. These results confirm the strong differenc
e in specific nova frequency between the disk and bulge of M 31 (rho(B
)=24.4-35.1). Similar results are obtained using galaxy luminosities i
n the IR K band.
