The transposition of the CO2-reduction objectives requires massive eff
orts in optimizing the conventional energy production and the developm
ent of technically and economically competitive, regenerative energy c
arriers Whilst the gas and steam (GuD) technology with integrated coal
gasification already leads to a noticeable CO2-reduction, due to high
efficiencies, the substitution of coal-like fuels by regrowing raw ma
terials achieve a nearly CO2-neutral electricity and heat generation.
Gasification tests with various biomasses were carried out at the Inst
itute for Metallurgy of Iron of the RWTH Aachen with the financial sup
port of the Federal Ministry for Food, Agriculture and Forestry, as we
ll as of the Rheinbraun AG (Joint Stock Company). Besides the gasifica
tion results of Weidel grass, this article shows the main points of th
e state of development for electricity generation from the biomass-pro
duct gas obtained.
