Jr. Haritsa et al., MANDATE - MANAGING NETWORKS USING DATABASE TECHNOLOGY, IEEE journal on selected areas in communications, 11(9), 1993, pp. 1360-1372
In recent years, there has been a growing demand for the development o
f tooll to manage enterprise communication networks. A management info
rmation database is the heart of a network management system-it provid
es the interface between all functions of the network management syste
m and, therefore, has to provide sophisticated functionality allied wi
th high performance. In this paper, we introduce the design of MANDATE
(MAnaging Networks using DAtabase TEchnology), a proposed database sy
stem for effectively supporting the management of large enterprise net
works. The MANDATE design makes a conscious attempt to take advantage
of the special characteristics of network data and transactions, and o
f recent advances in database technology, to efficiently derive some o
f the required management functionality.
