The kinetics of the solid-solid reaction between barium carbonate and
copper oxide to produce barium-copper oxide which is one of the precur
sors in the synthesis of high temperature superconductor, yttrium-bari
um-copper oxide, are studied using a thermogravimetric analyzer (TGA).
The effect of temperature on conversion is evaluated between 825-925-
degrees-C. The activation energy for the reaction is estimated to be 5
0.73 kcal/mol.
