P. Dasdia et al., NONLINEAR MODEL OF WIND-INDUCED VIBRATIONS OF SLENDER STRUCTURES WITHCIRCULAR CROSS-SECTIONS, Journal of wind engineering and industrial aerodynamics, 48(2-3), 1993, pp. 189-203
In the present paper a numerical model well suited to predict the resp
onse of cylindrical slender structures subjected to the wind action is
presented. The total longitudinal. and lateral forces acting on this
kind of structures are treated as a sum of correlated random forces in
the along-wind direction and in the across-wind direction and of dete
rministic aerodynamic forces arising from the transversal structural m
otion. The proposed model can handle all the velocity components of th
e structure, and the related aerodynamic forces are computed even when
the structural behaviour is strongly nonlinear due to large displacem
ent effects. With reference to some structural typologies relevant to
engineering applications (chimneys and cable-stayed chimneys), some nu
merical examples are presented in order to show the model functionalit
y.
