Abstract
In the paper, some recent advances in the design of very large span su spension bridges are reviewed and a solution based on a design of S. M usmeci is finally investigated. This solution, based on a double effec t cable system, shows many advantages, underlined here, mainly in prov iding stiffness and, possibly, damping ''reserve'', that can face effe ctively many design uncertainties.
