Ya. Khrustalev, ELECTRIC PHENOMENA ON THE RUPTURING OF ADHESIVE CONTACT AND FAILURE OF SOLIDS - DEVELOPMENT STAGES FROM GAS-DISCHARGE TO COLD NUCLEAR-FUSION, Colloids and surfaces. A, Physicochemical and engineering aspects, 79(1), 1993, pp. 51-63
A brief review is presented of the development of work carried out mai
nly by Derjaguin and co-workers since the end of the 1940s concerning
electrophysical phenomena accompanying the rupture of the adhesive bon
d and the failure of solids under mechanical loads (e.g. the electrica
l charging of fresh surfaces and gas discharge processes due to the ex
cess charges, and the emission of electrons and X-rays, as well as col
d nuclear fusion). A correlation between the electron emission phenome
non and mechano-chemical processes in solids is noted.
