A 27-year-old patient with pulmonary atresia, ventricular septal defec
t, and multifocal lung-perfusion suddenly developed headache and left
facial sensory disturbances. Using computed tomography and magnetic re
sonance imaging a temporo-parietal brain abscess was diagnosed. After
abscess aspiration and antibiotical therapy neurological signs disappe
ared immediately and the patient could leave hospital without any neur
ological deficit. Adult patients with congenital cyanotic heart diseas
e are at risk to develop a brain abscess which should therefore be rul
ed out if headache, fever of unknown origin or focal neurologic signs
occur.
